Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding how Jiko works

How it works

What is a descending auction?

Unlike traditional auctions where the price goes up, a descending auction starts at a price set by the artist and gradually decreases. The first buyer who accepts the current price wins the artwork.

How does the auction mechanism work?

The artist sets a starting price, a floor price, a duration, and a decrement interval. The price drops automatically at each step. If nobody buys at the current price, it continues to decrease down to the floor price.

How is the sale price distributed?

Each sale is split as follows: 70% for the artist, 16% donated to the chosen NGO, and 14% commission for the Jiko Art platform.

Why choose a descending auction?

Descending auctions eliminate speculation: the price reflects the buyer's perceived value, not competition between bidders. It's a fairer and more human model.

For artists

How to choose an NGO?

When creating an auction, the artist selects from the verified NGOs on the platform. Each NGO is presented with its mission and region of action.

How do I get paid as an artist?

Payment is secured via Stripe Connect. Once the sale is confirmed, your share (70%) is deposited directly into your linked Stripe account.

Who handles shipping?

The artist is responsible for shipping the artwork to the buyer. Jiko Art provides the delivery address after payment confirmation.

Can I modify a live auction?

No, a live auction cannot be modified to ensure fairness towards interested buyers.

For buyers

Do I need to create an account?

Yes, an account is required to make purchases. It allows you to track your favorites, auctions, and purchases.

How do I know if an NGO is legitimate?

Each NGO undergoes a verification process by our team before being listed on Jiko Art. We verify official documents and mission statements.

What happens after the purchase?

After payment, the artist receives your delivery details and prepares the shipment. You can track the transaction from your profile.

Is the payment secure?

Yes, all payments are processed via Stripe, the world leader in online payments. Your banking details are never stored on our servers.

Can I cancel my purchase?

As per our Terms of Service, a validated purchase is final. However, if there's an issue with the received artwork, contact us for mediation.
